During the launch of the UDA One-Stop Unit, Mr. Dasun Wickramarathna, Chairman of GHR Global, highlighted the transformative impact this initiative will have on Sri Lanka's real estate development sector. He acknowledged the long-standing challenges developers have faced, citing that it previously took months, and in some cases years, to obtain development permits due to the involvement of more than 25 different authorities. This process ranked Sri Lanka behind regional competitors such as India, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand, where permits are often granted within 30 days.

Mr. Wickramarathna praised the One-Stop Unit launched by the Urban Development Authority (UDA), emphasizing that it will significantly reduce bureaucratic delays, allowing permits to be issued within just 21 days. He believes this improvement will elevate Sri Lanka’s position in the DB Index, enhancing the country’s appeal to both local and foreign investors. The launch of this unit marks a new era for real estate development in Sri Lanka, streamlining processes and enabling faster progress. He concluded by expressing his gratitude to the UDA for recognizing and addressing the red tape and barriers that have hindered development for so long.
