GHR proudly received the Gold Award in Sustainable Residential Housing Development and Hotel Residencies at the prestigious 7th International Conference on Sustainable Globalization (ICSG). Held at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo, the award ceremony concluded the three-day conference, which brought together leaders from academia, industry, and government to advance global sustainability. Organized by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (USA), Mahatma Gandhi University (India), Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences (Germany), and the American International Campus (Sri Lanka), the ICSG continues to serve as a global platform for fostering collaboration and innovation.
The Chief Guest, Mr. K. M. M. Siriwardana, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, delivered a compelling address during the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of collective action and disciplined macroeconomic policymaking in shaping Sri Lanka’s future. He remarked, “Although we have shown our resilience, working hard with a clear understanding on the path ahead, collective action, accountability, and dedication are extremely important to ensure that the Sri Lankan economy will be taken to a comfortable position during the next ten years, rather than letting it be another missed opportunity.” His words highlighted the critical role of sustainability and collaboration in achieving long-term economic and social stability.
The award was presented by Mr. Siriwardana to Mr. Dasun Wickramarathna, Chairman of GHR, and Ms. Priyanthi Abeyweera, Director of GHR. Distinguished Guests of Honor, including Ms. Chamindry Saparamadu, Director General of the Sustainable Development Council, and Mr. M. S. K. Dharmawardane, graced the event. The ICSG organizing committee, chaired by Dr. Gishan Sumanasiri, alongside Dr. Abey Kuruwilla, Dr. Hedda Sander, and Dr. Robinet Jacob, ensured the event’s success.
The ICSG Global Sustainability Awards aim to recognize organizations for their contributions to sustainable development, highlighting their alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). GHR’s recognition underscores its leadership in embedding sustainability into real estate and construction practices, setting a benchmark for responsible development.
GHR’s sustainability initiatives have been pivotal in achieving this recognition. Its ongoing hotel residency and residential projects integrate eco-friendly designs, such as green roofs, rooftop gardens, and vertical landscaping, enhancing biodiversity and improving urban air quality. These projects feature energy-efficient systems, solar power installations, and water conservation technologies, reflecting a commitment to reducing carbon footprints and fostering sustainable urban living. Beyond its projects, GHR’s community engagement programs have made a tangible difference. Initiatives such as the Christmas celebration at Prithipura Communities, beach cleaning drives, and plans for supporting elder homes and rainforest conservation demonstrate a deep-rooted commitment to giving back to society. These efforts reflect the company’s dedication to aligning progress with community well-being and environmental responsibility.
Receiving the Gold Award at the ICSG conference is a significant milestone for GHR. Chairman Mr. Dasun Wickramarathna expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, “This award is a testament to our vision of building a future where progress and sustainability go hand in hand. It inspires us to continue innovating and contributing to a more sustainable world.”
The ICSG conference, established in 2018, aims to bridge academia, industry, and government in addressing global sustainability challenges. This year’s theme, “Sustainable Transportation, Technology, and Tourism,” featured keynote speeches, research presentations, and interactive workshops. The event offered participants opportunities to network, exchange ideas, and develop actionable solutions for a more sustainable future.
Winning this prestigious award cements GHR’s position as a leader in sustainable real estate and construction. By aligning its practices with the UN SDGs, GHR continues to redefine responsible development, proving that progress and sustainability can thrive together. This recognition serves as both a celebration of its achievements and a call to continue pioneering sustainable solutions for generations to come.
