Beach Cleaning Day – Making a Difference in Negombo
Reviving the Coast, Restoring Our Planet
In an effort to protect the natural beauty of Negombo Beach, the Green Practice Committee (GPC) from the Faculty of Medicine (FOM) at the University of Kelaniya (UOK) organized a beach cleaning initiative. This event brought together volunteers to remove plastic debris, nurdles, and other pollutants scattered along the shoreline, fostering environmental responsibility among participants.
The waste collected during the event was responsibly handled by donating it to recycling centers and properly disposing of non-recyclables. This initiative aligns with the University of Kelaniya’s environmental policy, making it a significant step in their journey as Sri Lanka’s first National Green University. The project also highlighted the importance of environmental preservation through the involvement of The Pearl Protectors, a key organization advocating for clean coastlines.
GHR Global, as the main sponsor of this event, along with Jetwing Hotels as the venue partner, played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the cleanup effort. The event reinforced GHR Global’s commitment to supporting environmental initiatives and leaving a positive impact on the community.
